Biography Leading master of the "Four Masters of the Yuan," Huang Gongwang (1269–1354) was a Daoist recluse from Changshu. His ink landscape paintings combine austere power with lyrical vitality. His monumental *Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains* is widely regarded as the supreme achievement of literati painting.
